BLAX GIVES BACK - PARTNERS WITH STAR PROGRAM AT FES

Players - Earn volunteer or community service hours while helping elementary students that might be struggling in school. Your role includes helping students with their math, reading, and social skills. No training is required. You can help to make learning fun!

Players have a volunteer opportunity to work with students at FES who participate in the STAR fall learning program (formerly called Tiger Academy).

Star Academy will be starting up again on Tuesday, February 6.  Sign up using the link below.

Thank you for helping elementary kids at FES.  Staff there are very appreciative of all you do!

Players can report to the FES office upon arrival and will be given instructions for the afternoon.

Thank you for volunteering - Principal Bolleson would love to see you there! Any questions or concerns please reach out to Kirsten Pederson at kapeders@umn.edu or text/call 952-240-7947.

Youth Teaching Youth

Looking for players in grades 10 and up to meet with 1 (or more) 8th graders to answer questions about FHS and make connections.  Questions could include what's the schedule like, what you wish you'd known going in, what to expect, what's for lunch, etc. Meetings are tentatively set to start Thursday, February 22 from 3-3:30 p.m. at Dodge Middle School in the Media Center.  There are 5 meetings total and I would need you to commit to all of them up until the BLAX schedule would conflict.

Each session has an activity planned so you have something to do while you're talking.  Sometimes the middle schoolers are quiet so this avoids the awkward silence as they get to know you. All meetings take place on Thursdays, we skip early release day and spring break of course.

Interested?  If so you would need to have a very short meeting with Kirsten Pederson to discuss a few basic expectations before the first meeting.  Hours count for NHS, community service, and looks great on a college app as you are actually volunteering through a University of Minnesota program.  Message Kirsten Pederson in Schoology under Youth Teaching Youth or you can text her at 952-240-7947 if you want to learn more.
