Under the direction of Megan Dimich and Jaclyn Schmeichel, the Farmington High School Choir program features 4 curricular choirs, 3 extracurricular choirs as well as a number of additional music related electives. Check out some of the opportunities below.
Concert Choir Spring 2024
This auditioned choir (grades 10-12) is an advanced ensemble of mixed Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass voices. This course focuses on the continuation of music literacy, theory, sight-reading, vocal technique, and the experience of performing challenging choral literature of the highest quality. Auditions for upper level choirs are held during the third trimester of each school year to assure balance and maintain a high standard of excellence. All current students are required to audition annually for Cantabile and Concert Concert Choir.
This auditioned group is a treble voice choir. Admission is open to any female in grade 10-12 with an audition. Con Brio is a tenor and bass voice choir. Admission is open to students 9-12 without an audition. This course focuses on developing basic note reading skill, music theory, sight-reading and proper vocal technique especially as it applies to the male changing voice. Auditions for upper level choirs are held during the third trimester of each school year to assure balance and maintain a high standard of excellence.
Chanté is a treble voice choir. Admission is open to students 9-12 without an audition. This course focuses on developing basic note reading skill, music theory, sight-reading and proper vocal technique. New Dimension is an auditioned, extracurricular, mixed choir from Farmington High School. Students are juniors or seniors and are also a part of Concert Choir. They meet on Monday nights and have an extensive caroling season during the month of December. Throughout the year they are often highlighted around the school singing at athletic events and as featured members of our concert programs. These students are extremely dedicated to the choir program and they exude a love of singing wherever they go!
Vocal Jazz is a SATB vocal ensemble that varies in size each year. Admission is open to students (enrolled in choir) grades 10-12 without an audition. This course focuses on the art of singing vocal jazz including jazz history, jazz theory, microphone technique, solo singing, improvisation and arranging. Students are encouraged to push their limits and challenge their musicality through performance in large group and small group/solos at Jazz Café.
Vox (Latin for voice) is an extracurricular morning men’s ensemble that meets every Wednesday morning for 40 minutes. This group is open to any choir student who wants an extra singing opportunity. The group sings a variety of music from classical to contemporary music and is a great way for students to become even more involved in our program. The ensemble is directed by Jacylyn Schmeichel.
Vocé (Italian for voice, pronounced voh-chay) is an extracurricular morning women’s ensemble that meets every Monday morning for 40 minutes. This group is open to any choir student who wants an extra singing opportunity. The group sings a variety of music from classical to contemporary music and is a great way for students to become even more involved in our program. The ensemble is directed by Megan Dimich.
